Use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Hard bristles can wear down enamel and irritate gum tissue. A soft brush (used gently) is better for long-term enamel and gum health.
Cut back on acidic foods and drinks. Things like soda, sports drinks, citrus juices, and wine all contribute to enamel erosion over time. Reducing how often you consume them – and rinsing with water afterward when you do – can help slow the process.
Do not brush right after acidic meals. Acids temporarily soften enamel, and brushing right away can accelerate erosion. Wait about 30 minutes.
